Feyenoord has agreed with Olympique Marseille on the transfer of Quinten Timber, Dennis te Kloese reports during the club’s New Year’s reception. The ball is now in the midfielder’s hands.
Timber has an expiring contract with Feyenoord, so the club can only earn something from him now. “We have our options and he has his expectations. We cannot reach an agreement. We agree with the club he is going to,” says Ten Kloese, referring to Marseille.
The general and technical director sees that Feyenoord could not reach an agreement with Timber. “He values himself at a certain value and we have a certain maximum. We have tried to do the maximum within our salary house, we feel. We have not been able to achieve that. It is not much more.”
Timber now faces a move to Marseille. Feyenoord and Marseille have even already reached an agreement. “It must be up to him,” says Te Kloese. “I think he is also enthusiastic about it. We hope it works out and we can have a nice goodbye.” After the match against Sparta Rotterdam, Timber already announced that the chance of a departure has become even greater due to his altercation with Robin van Persie.
Te Kloese also has positive words about the 24-year-old midfielder. “It is not without reason that Timber is called up several times for the Dutch national team. He is an important player for Feyenoord. The strength he radiates both on and off the field is very important. We have been working for a long time, and not in the last few weeks, to extend his contract. But we were unable to reach an agreement.”
