In her opening match at the BWF World Tour Super 500 – Indonesia Masters 2026, Vietnam’s number one in women’s tennis, Nguyen Thuy Linh (world number 21), will meet her long-time rival Lin Hsiang-ti (world number 20) from Taiwan (China) on the afternoon of January 21st.
However, Thùy Linh was in top form, played brilliantly and only needed 35 minutes to win the match with a 2-0 win (21:14, 21:11) against her Taiwanese (Chinese Taipei) opponent. This victory is very important because it gives the Vietnamese number one a good start to the Super 500 tournament and the chance for revenge.
In both sets, Lin Hsiang-ti was only able to keep up in the early stages before Nguyen Thuy Linh increased the tempo thanks to her flexible and precise ball control, took complete control of the game and won.
With Thùy Linh’s victory, the Super 500 race began after 35 minutes.
Nguyen Thuy Linh has reached the second round and will meet another player from Taiwan (China), Chiu Pin-chan (world number 14), tomorrow, January 22nd.
In their last meeting in the Korea Masters final in November 2025, Chiu Pin-chan won 2-0, so this is seen as an opportunity for the Vietnamese to get revenge on her opponent.
At the Indonesia Masters 2026, a BWF tournament with a total prize money of US$500,000, Nguyen Thuy Linh reached the second round, scoring 430 points, making her the only representative of Vietnamese badminton to take part in this tournament.
