Thiem Brisbane Exit: Tennis News & Results

For Anastasia Potapova, the second round of the WTA 500 tournament in Brisbane ends.

The newly crowned Austrian had to admit defeat to her former Russian compatriot Diana Shnaider (WTA 11) 1:6, 3:6 on Tuesday.

The main reason for the clear defeat is Potapova’s worse use of chances: While Shnaider, seeded twelve, can convert five of her nine break chances, the Austrian only manages to do so once in seven attempts.

Potapova will improve by around four positions in the WTA rankings to 51st on Monday and will therefore remain clearly Austria’s number one in women’s tennis.

Kraus still in action in Auckland

The Viennese Sinja Kraus could also make it into the top 100 for the first time this week.

She will meet Britain’s Francesca Jones (WTA 72) in the round of 16 of the 250 tournament in Auckland on Wednesday night. With a win, this milestone could be close for Kraus.
