José Manuel Puertas, sports journalist specialized in basketball, television narrator, writer and collaborator of IDEAL, has published his third book: ‘The bad boys of basketball … European’, which follows ‘The bad boys of the NBA’ and ‘Giannis Antekounmpo, the MVP who emerged from misery’. This last work can be purchased at the price of 22 euros at all the usual points of sale, such as Amazon, El Corte Inglés, Fnac, Casa del Libro…. or at the neighborhood bookstore, «even if they don’t have it, if you go and order it, you will have it in two days. They have it at Picasso, it is sold online and physically,” the author clarifies.
Puertas remembers that his first experience and contact with literature was through a football book, ‘Luka Modric: The Son of War’, which he shared with Vicente Azpitarte. «It came to me a little unexpectedly, it was not something I was looking for, but this came through Vicente, and he wanted to do it with me, I was very excited about the idea, and we moved forward, it was successful and was published in Japan and Croatia, but it is something that I had not considered.»
Then came the book about the NBA MVP: ‘Anteto’. “I was very clear about Antetokounmpo, because when I started to get to know the story a little, I thought, this guy, what he experienced and suffered by this boy who came to the NBA, before he was a superstar, deserves to be told, and I got very involved, and I was the one who insisted a lot on the publisher, Ediciones JC, so that he would see the light,” he comments.
“It is true that, from then on, the other two publications have been proposed by the publisher, who proposed me the ‘bad boys’ of the NBA, and when it came out, he told me, hey, we would have to do it on the same concept but from here, European.”
However, Puertas has a project. “The book that I would really like to write is a local one, the one about the famous rise of CB Granada in May 2001 against Menorca, and I have a lot of documentation, I hope I can do it one day, I was in the newspaper library for many months going to get everything from that time, I have a lot of information saved from that, it was the miracle of Spanish basketball.”
