| Sinner advances to the third round |

The men’s singles second round of the Australian Open (Australia/Melbourne, Hard, Grand Slam) tennis tournament was held on the 22nd, where second seed J. Sinner (Italy) defeated world No. 88 J. Duckworth (Australia), who was playing as a wild card (recommended by the organizer), in straight sets 6-1, 6-4, 6-2, advancing to the third round for the fifth consecutive year.

This is the seventh year in a row that the 24-year-old Sinner has participated in the tournament. He has won back-to-back titles in 2024 and 2025, and at this tournament he is aiming to become the second player since the Open era to win three consecutive championships, following No. 4 No. 4 in the world, N. Djokovic (Serbia).
In the second round, Sinner made 18 service aces and won points with a high probability of 86% when he received a first serve. He never allowed a break to Duckworth, and in the return game he was broken five times, resulting in a complete victory in just 1 hour and 49 minutes.
Sinner has a record of 9 wins and 0 losses against Australians in singles at Grand Slam tournaments. In an on-court interview after the match, he said, “I’m very happy to move on to the next round because every match is very tough.My return was very good and my serve was good today, so I’m satisfied with my play.I want to thank everyone (the audience).I’m not Australian, but you all treated me very fairly.Thank you for your support.”
In the third round, he will face E. Spigili (USA), who is ranked 85th in the world. In the second round, Spizili defeated Wu Yibin (China), the qualifying winner and ranked 168th in China, in all sets to advance to the tournament.
On the same day, 4th seed Djokovic, 5th seed L. Musetti (Italy), 8th seed B. Shelton (USA), 15th seed K. Khachanov, and 16th seed J. Mencik (Czech Republic) advanced to the third round.
