Strait Feihong News (Reporter Huo Jianyang): On the evening of January 21, the opening ceremony of the 32nd Taiwan Compatriot Youth Winter Camp of the All-China Taiwan Federation and the Cross-Strait Youth Gala were held at Zhejiang University. This winter camp is hosted by the All-China Taiwan Federation and hosted by the Zhejiang Taiwan Federation, the Zhejiang Overseas Friendship Association, and Zhejiang University. With the theme of “Youth Goes on a New Journey Together to Paint the Mountains and Rivers”, more than 1,000 Taiwanese students crossed the mountains and seas to the mainland of the motherland. Youth from both sides of the Taiwan Strait will go hand in hand to carry out exchanges and visits in 24 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) across the country.
Ji Bin, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the All-China Federation of Taiwan Federations, said in his opening speech that he hopes that through the winter camp activities, everyone will go out and see more, feel the development pulse of the motherland, and appreciate the majestic warmth of brotherhood and mutual help between compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait; they will forge deep friendships among colleagues, become good friends with good understanding, and good partners who work hand in hand, and jointly contribute youthful energy to promote the peaceful development and integrated development of cross-Strait relations.
Fu Qiang, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of Zhejiang University, delivered a welcome speech. He said that Zhejiang University has actively promoted cross-strait educational and cultural exchanges and cooperation over the years, and has established close cooperative relationships with many universities and research institutions in Taiwan. There are frequent exchanges of teachers and students and active academic exchanges. In the future, we will continue to build a more diversified, deeper and sustainable cross-strait youth exchange platform, and welcome Taiwanese youth to choose to study at Zhejiang University.
Li Zhaoyu, vice chairman of the Taipei Sports Federation, said in his speech that this winter camp provides Taiwanese youth with the opportunity to enter Hangzhou and feel first-hand the development pulse of the motherland. This experience will surely become the most precious memory of youth. From the passionate competition of the Hangzhou-Taiwan Youth Basketball Invitational Tournament to the years of inheritance of the Cross-Strait Baseball Exchange Tournament, young people from both sides of the Taiwan Strait run side by side and fight hand in hand. They eliminate barriers in exchanges and grow together in mutual learning. Their deep friendship and spiritual harmony are the best interpretation of “starting from home plate and eventually going home” in baseball.
Yang, a representative of Taiwanese campers, said that both sides of the Taiwan Strait share a common language and culture. The youth on both sides of the Taiwan Strait have a desire for knowledge, enthusiasm for innovation, resonance with culture, and vision for the future. It is hoped that through exchanges, Taiwanese youth will have a profound understanding of the profound heritage of Chinese culture, and the seeds of friendship and cooperation will be planted in the hearts of young people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. Young friends from mainland China are welcome to cross the Taiwan Strait and visit the treasure island of Taiwan to create more mutually beneficial and win-win opportunities.
Tang Kun, a student from Zhejiang University, spoke on behalf of the volunteers and said that young people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait grew up in a common cultural soil and share a common historical memory. During this trip to Hangzhou, we will jointly experience the common civilization genes of 5,000 years ago in the ancient city of Liangzhu, comprehend the wisdom and open-mindedness of the ancients in the poetic landscape of West Lake, and stir up unlimited imagination for the future in the Science and Technology Innovation Park. I look forward to holding hands and heart to heart with young Taiwanese friends, communicating with each other, deepening friendship, moving from acquaintance to friendship, and jointly building a better future for both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
It is reported that the All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots Youth Winter Camp has been successfully held for 31 times. It is a popular exchange activity among Taiwanese youth and provides an important platform for cross-strait youth to communicate and learn from each other.
