Big news for one of the greatest sportswomen currently active. Olympic champion and world record holder in the 400m hurdles Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, also reigning world champion in the 400m flat, announced on Instagram on Thursday that she was pregnant with her first child.
“I made a human with my favorite human,” the American sprinter wrote alongside photos with her husband and ultrasound images on the social network. “You are already so loved. We can’t wait to meet you,” she continued, who, due to pregnancy, should be absent from the slopes this summer, in a season without the Olympics or the World Championships.
No major competition in 2026
Quadruple Olympic champion and world record holder in the 400m hurdles (50”37), McLaughlin-Levrone (26 years old) chose last season to concentrate solely on the 400m flat. At the World Championships in Tokyo, she came very close to the old world lap record, crossing the line in 47”78, a performance not seen for 40 years.
The 2026 athletics season does not include the usual major competition, but it will still be marked by the launch of the “Ultimate” championships, a new competition with a tight format imagined by the International Federation and the first edition of which will take place in September in Budapest.
