He is one of the dozens of victims of the tragic fire in Crans-Montana. Present at the Le Constellation bar, the scene of the tragedy that occurred on New Year’s Eve, the young Tahirys Dos Santos, playing for FC Metz, was seriously injured by the flames. Transported to Sion hospital then transferred to Stuttgart to be monitored in the burn unit, the 19-year-old footballer suffered several injuries.
This Thursday, his agent Christophe Hutteau gave his news to the microphone of RMC Sport, specifying nevertheless that he had not spoken directly with the player, the latter being “not able to express himself”. However, he followed the evolution of his foal’s state of health via his parents, who went to join him in the hospital.
“The big positive point is that contrary to what the doctors had imagined this morning, he was not placed on artificial respiration so he has regained lung capacity which allows him not to be forced to be put on assistance,” rejoiced the agent. It is far too early to make any diagnosis. Given the fact that he was transferred to a burn unit, I’ll let you imagine the physical state in which Tahirys unfortunately finds himself. »
This Friday, Christophe Hutteau gave details to BFMTV, explaining that his player was “burned up to 30% of his body”. However, his respiratory capacity has still “improved considerably since yesterday (Thursday) morning”. “I can’t tell you that he’s doing well because he’s in terrible pain,” he said.
“Real psychological suffering”
The next few days will be crucial for the young man, who does not yet know when he will be repatriated to France. “It is not excluded that he will have to undergo surgery tonight (Thursday to Friday) which would consist of a transplant. It is still much too early to know more about what will happen,” said Christophe Hutteau.
Tahirys Dos Santos was on vacation with friends before resuming his season when the tragedy took place. “He’s a 19-year-old boy, in the prime of his life, who had just made his first appearance in the pro group in the Coupe de France,” recalls the agent. Everything came together beautifully and it rewarded great professionalism on his part. There is a feeling of injustice. »
His girlfriend, also present in the bar, was seriously injured and hospitalized. “The important thing is that he regains his physical and moral integrity. I believe I know that beyond physical suffering, there is real psychological suffering. He experienced the tragedy,” regrets Christophe Hutteau.
