The Turkcell Super Cup final, played at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium on Saturday, also came to the fore with events beyond the competition on the field. While Fenerbahçe was the winner of the cup in the final that pitted Galatasaray against Fenerbahçe, tension rose on the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) side after the match.

According to Tahir Kum’s report, the statement made by TFF General Secretary Abdullah Ayaz about the cup ceremony after the final match ignited the crisis. Regarding the organization, Ayaz said, “There is no President, two Deputy Presidents, Mecnun Otyakmaz and Fuat Göktaş, will give the cup, there is no need for reserve members to come to the field.”
These words drew the reaction of TFF substitute member Burak Akkan. The verbal argument that started between Ayaz and Akkan quickly got out of control. The argument, with swear words flying in the air, turned into a physical fight with kicks and punches.
The intervention of TFF Deputy President Fuat Göktaş, who wanted to calm the events, caused a new tension instead of reducing the tension. This time, there was a tougher fight between Burak Akkan and Fuat Göktaş. The parties separated with difficulty when Mecnun Otyakmaz’s bodyguards stepped in.
During the brawl, TFF President İbrahim Hacıosmanoğlu was informed by phone and warnings were conveyed to the parties. However, it was learned that the tension continued for a while despite the interventions. The Super Cup final thus witnessed a night that will be talked about for a long time, with these events taking precedence over football.
