NFL legend Matt Hasselbeck has expressed his openness to hosting a Super Bowl in Germany and believes the country is a suitable venue for the biggest game in the football world.
At a media round, which was also the case SPORT1 took part, the former quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks spoke in detail about the international future of the NFL and brought up a possible Super Bowl final in Germany.
Hasselbeck: “A World Cup feeling”
“I think it makes sense to one day host the Super Bowl somewhere like Germany. For me, it’s already a neutral venue. It has something of a World Cup feeling,” said Hasselbeck.
For him, the decisive factor for the idea of a Super Bowl over a playoff game is the planning security: “You plan it well in advance. You know where it will take place. With the playoffs, you only find out where the game will take place six days in advance.”
From his point of view, it is precisely this organizational advantage that clearly speaks in favor of the Super Bowl: “That’s why I think the Super Bowl would be something that could be implemented very well. The players would love it. The families would love it. The fans would love it.”
NFL in Germany: A growing presence
The NFL has been present in Germany for years, in 2022 and 2024 it stopped off with regular season games in Munich, and in November 2025 Berlin was the venue for another regular season game. Games also took place in Frankfurt.
Against this background, the international expansion of the league continues to gain in importance – even if the Super Bowl 2026 (Super Bowl LX) will be played on February 9th at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara (California), a future final outside the USA does not seem to be ruled out from Hasselbeck’s point of view.
