In Minneapolis, a woman died during an ICE operation after an officer shot her. The incident is hotly debated in the USA.

Steve Kerr has spoken out about social injustices in the USA. Before his Golden State Warriors’ game against the Sacramento Kings, the Warriors coach had clear words about the fatal police operation against Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis. The US government’s reaction in particular was met with incomprehension by Kerr.

Good, 37, was shot dead by an ICE immigration officer on Wednesday. A video shows officers approaching the woman’s car, which is blocking a road. They ask her to get out of the vehicle and try to open the driver’s door. As Good drives off slowly, an officer steps in front of the car and another shoots. The woman dies.

“It’s shameful that we have law enforcement officers in our country who commit murder and seem to get away with it,” Kerr said. “It is shameful that the government can distort the truth about what happened – even though there is video footage and witnesses who contradict this.”

Officials said the officer acted in self-defense. Good used her car as a weapon. However, this portrayal is disputed by several local politicians – including Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey. They classified the operation as reckless.

Kerr praised the NBA club Minnesota Timberwolves, who remembered Good with a moment of silence before their home game against Cleveland. “I’m glad the Timberwolves honored her life and the tragic nature of her death,” the 60-year-old said. “Very demoralizing, devastating, to lose a life in this way. It’s terrible. Very sad for her family, for her, for the city.”
