The second half of the 2nd Badminton Bundesliga North began last weekend. STC BW Solingen has put itself in a promising position in the first half of the season with 7 wins from 11 games. “It can go on like this” was what the team said to themselves when they were allowed to visit the two bottom teams in the table at the weekend.
On Saturday they were guests at SC Union 08 Lüdinghausen, against whom they clearly won in the first half of the season. But this time the starting situation was different: the STC had to do without some players due to injuries and on the other hand, the Union from Lüdinghausen started significantly stronger than in the first half of the season. The former, very successful national player Karin Schnaase, among others, played for her home team and was able to immediately prove her class. In the end, there was almost nothing to gain for the STC in almost any game, so they clearly lost the game 0:7.
There was hardly any time to be angry, as the team from Solingen then had to travel the long way to Berlin in order to be ready again on Sunday at 11 a.m. against SV BerlinerBrauen. Here, too, they were able to win comfortably in the first half of the season, but the Saturday trend remained. The result here was also a clear 0:7 and only one set was won. “It was a mix of everything… Poor performance on our side, stronger teams on the opposing side and some bad personnel luck. We simply weren’t competitive this weekend!” said Felix Hammes when asked what had happened.
We have to look forward, because next Sunday we will be guests at one of the current top teams, Gladbecker FC. “Even if it gets difficult, we have to try to sell ourselves better,” said Niels Kock, who cannot compete due to a complex foot ligament injury. The STC still has enough of a lead over a relegation zone, but it won’t be a sure-fire success!
