Sport-Hommage Gala: Regional Sporting Excellence

REGION. The Desjardins Sport-Hommage Gala rewarded the athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers who particularly stood out in 2025. At the end of the evening, Florence Brunelle and Mathias Guillemette left with the trophy rewarding the outstanding female and male athletes of international level.

The year 2025 is one of preparation for the 2026 Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina for Florence Brunelle. And the results were there for the short track speed skater. In February 2025, she climbed to the top of the podium for the first time at the World Cup in the Netherlands in the 500m event. Florence and her teammates notably won gold in the 3000m relay last October on the World Tour circuit. On a regional level, the Trifluvienne was named ambassador of the Quebec Games in Trois-Rivières, highlighting her inspiring journey and her message of acceptance and perseverance.

For his part, cyclist Mathias Guillemette made a spectacular leap towards road cycling in 2025. The numbers speak for themselves: two victories and around fifty days of racing, much more than he hoped to obtain during the year. He notably won the Canadian criterium title and he was then able to win for the first time on the roads of Europe as part of the second stage of the Tour d’Alsace.
