He Arsenal has given the first blow in the winter market of the WSL with the incorporation of Smilla Holmbergyoung Swedish international centre-back from Hammarby IF. At just 19 years old, Holmberg already has more than 50 appearances in the Swedish top flight, a league title and two national cups, in addition to nine senior caps for Sweden.
Trained in Hammarby’s youth system and promoted to the first team in 2022, Holmberg has established herself as one of the most promising defenders in northern Europe. His arrival in London represents a leap both sportingly and culturally: «I always dreamed of playing for Arsenal. “It is a special moment for me and my family, but also an opportunity to grow in a demanding environment and help win titles,” he declared after signing his long-term contract.
