MEMBERTOU – The Czech women’s hockey players suffered a 1:9 debacle from the United States of America in the second game of the Under-18 Women’s World Championship in Canada.
The players of Slovak coach Dušan Andrašovský, who want to attack for the third medal in a row, have three points and a score of 10:10 before the final meeting in group B against Slovakia.
When entering the championship, the Czechs outclassed Finland 9:1, but on Sunday they suffered the same debacle against the USA in the city of Membertou. The American women scored eight goals during the first two periods, Aneta Paroubková scored the honorable goal in the 22nd minute in a power play to make the score 1:5.
“Once again, it showed us the big gaps between European hockey and North American hockey. The difference is still huge – in physical condition, in puck control, in skills. We still lack a lot.” stated for hokej.cz Andrašovský, who led the junior women to historic silver in 2024 and last year.
Thanks to the second big win, the American women secured their passage to the quarterfinals from first place. On Tuesday, the Czechs will meet Slovakia for the second position, which after the initial debacle 0:13 defeated Finland 5:2. Slovak star Nela Lopušanová scored four goals.
