Slovak hockey player Juraj Slafkovský in the service of the Montreal Canadiens is attacking his goal and point maximums in the overseas NHL.
Canadian coach Martin St. Louis praised the current form of the 21-year-old forward before the home clash with the Buffalo Sabres.
The draft unit from 2022 fully demonstrates his scoring potential in this period, after 50 duels played, he has 19 goals and 21 assists to his credit. So far, his most productive season was the previous season, in which Slafkovský scored 51 points.
“We are very happy with where he has reached. In general, I would say that I am a patient person. But only with regard to things that make sense. I do not think that my mandate should be to be patient with ‘Slaf’ at all costs. Patience only applies for a certain time and it depends on what you do with that time,” the Slovak version of the NHL’s official website quotes the Canadiens coach.
Slafkovský is only one accurate hit away from tying the season high in the number of goals from the 2023/2024 season. In his previous career in Montreal, he has also endured more challenging moments and can currently assert himself in basically any formation.
“It was very well calculated how we wanted to approach him. We knew he was going to take big leaps forward, but also take a step back every now and then. So I was patient in the sense that it wasn’t just going to be linear, but there were going to be some ups and downs.
The most exciting part is how high it can still go. He is still a very young player,” added St. Louis about his charge.
Montreal is in fourth place in the balanced table of the Eastern Conference, losing three points to the three teams ahead of it. He won three of the previous five matches.
“The coach helped me because he was patient with me and always believed in me even in moments when I wasn’t doing too well. It’s great with him and I’m very lucky that he is my first coach in the NHL. He knows the game, he understands everything, so I couldn’t have asked for a better coach,” said Slafkovský to St. Louisa.
