After his winning goal in the last second, builder Isaiah Swope was the hero of the evening for the Skyliners Frankfurt. The Hessians won the physical game against Chemnitz but especially under the basket.

In the end there was a good portion of luck. Match winner Isaiah Swope also had to admit that with his three-point throw at the last second the 89:86 home win of the Skyliners Frankfurt had sealed. “I’m just happy that he fell in,” said the American after the final whistle on Saturday on the sports channel Dyn. However, the Hessians’ victory was not undeserved.
The wild throw was the fitting finale to a thoroughly exciting game. The Skyliners and Chemnitz fought what is known in English as a “dogfight”. A physical game in which people scratch and bite and fight for every ball.
LeDee as a guarantee of success
“Rodrigo Pastore teams are always extremely physical, extremely long and athletic,” Skyliners captain Till Pape told hr-sport. The Argentinian has been training the Chemnitz team since 2015. So the Hessians knew what to expect this Saturday evening.
It was particularly important that Jaedon LeDee, the Skyliners’ incarnated muscle, was able to play again after a long injury break. The Texan wore himself out for 40 minutes, going where it hurts. With twelve points and twelve rebounds (six of them under the opponent’s basket), he became the secret match winner of the game.
Step in the right direction
“He’s someone who sometimes dominates the one-on-one matchups in rebounding. That’s just good for our game because it creates freedom for everyone else,” praised Pape, who contributed 17 points and seven rebounds to the win.
The winning goal in the last second came from outside, but the Skyliners won the game against their neighbors in the table under the basket. The Hessians won the rebound duel 37:30. “We could have put the lid on it beforehand,” complained head coach Klaus Perwas (rightly) in an interview with hr-sport, but the performance against Chemnitz was another step in the right direction.
The league is tighter than it has been in a long time
The victory was also extremely important with a view to the fight for the playoffs. It is formulated positively Basketball Bundesliga more balanced than it has been for a long time. Every success in the regular season counts even more. As of Sunday morning, the Skyliners are eighth in the table, one win ahead of twelfth-placed Weißenfels and one win behind third-placed Trier.
The Frankfurt team will be guests at the latter next Saturday (8 p.m.). With a similar performance to that against Chemnitz, the Skyliners at least have a good chance of taking the next step towards the playoffs there.
