With 1,569.6 points, the Japanese team became the new ski flying team world champions. The German ski jumpers, on the other hand, were unable to win a medal in the team competition at the Ski Flying World Championships in Oberstdorf, as they did in the individual event. Philipp Raimund, Felix Hoffmann, Karl Geiger and Pius Paschke only came in fourth with 1,406.8 points. For the first time in 16 years, Germany remained without a medal at the World Ski Flying Championships. Behind Japan Austria won silver, the bronze medal went to Norway.
The Japanese team benefited from a mishap by this season’s outstanding diver. A ski from Four Hills Tournament winner Domen Prevc flying through the air cost Slovenia its chance to win. Before Norwegian Marius Lindvik’s jump, both of individual world champion Prevc’s skis slid uncontrollably down the jump, one only landed after about 50 meters and slid into the run-out. Nobody was hit. However, Prevc was not allowed to jump in the first round, which deprived his team of the chance to win.
Most recently, medals for Germany three times in a row
The DSV quartet had always won a medal at the previous three World Championships. In the individual, for the first time since 2010, no DSV athlete made it into the top ten. With the dominant victory of the Slovenian Domen Prevc, Raimund could only finish 13th. On Saturday, silver went to Lindvik from Norway after four rounds, and Ren Nikaido from Japan won bronze.
The last time Germany was worse at a World Aviation Championship was 16 years ago. At that time, the team only managed seventh place; in the individual, Michael Uhrmann was the best German in 19th place.
