Sivert Guttorm Bakken was honored before the men's sprint in Oberhof.

Many skiers had difficulty holding back tears when Sivert Guttorm Bakken was honored.

So did Björn Ferry.

– Right now it is difficult to talk, says the SVT expert.

The race in Oberhof, Germany, is the first since Sivert Guttorm Bakken was found dead in a hotel room in Italy.

Before the men’s sprint, the Norwegian was celebrated with applause and a commemorative film, and when it was shown, tears flowed for Johannes Dale-Skjevdal and Vetle Sjåstad Christiansen.

– It is heavy and emotional to see the entire Norwegian team, and Tommaso Giaccomel, says Björn Ferry, who had difficulty speaking.

“A face for will”

Swede Viktor Brandt thinks it is very nice that Bakken is honored.

– He was a face for will in sports, so it’s a very nice way, says Brandt.

No rider had starting number 1 as a tribute to the Bakken and the Norwegian riders all wore black mourning bands.

Sivert Guttorm Bakken, however, in December 2025.
