Despite a fairly difficult rookie season, Shedeur Sanders will still be able to boast of having participated in the Pro Bowl in his first campaign in the NFL.
The Cleveland Browns quarterback will be named to the AFC All-Star team to replace Drake Maye, who will instead play in the Super Bowl with the New England Patriots.
Josh Allen and Justin Herbert are the other quarterbacks who were named to the AFC All-Star team. Herbert’s presence is uncertain, since the Los Angeles Chargers quarterback was playing despite a left wrist injury at the end of the season.
Bo Nix of the Denver Broncos would have been a prime candidate to replace Maye, but Nix injured his ankle against the Bills in the playoffs and his season ended early.
In his first season in the NFL, Sanders is far from having amassed statistics that usually merit a Pro Bowl berth.
The Browns’ fifth-round pick started seven games and was 3-4. He threw seven touchdown passes against 10 interceptions and amassed 1,400 yards through the air. Sanders also added a rushing touchdown.
Sanders becomes the first Browns quarterback since Derek Anderson in 2008 to participate in the NFL All-Star Game.
