Shaqueel van Persie may face competition from young Argentinian striker
Transfer expert Ekrem Konur reports on Sunday morning on X that Ruberto has attracted the attention of many clubs. He calls it a ‘transfer battle’ that, in addition to Feyenoord, also includes Lazio, Benfica, Olympiacos and Midtjylland. According to Konur, these clubs have the South American on their list and are keeping an eye on him. There does not seem to be any concrete action being taken as yet.
Ruberto is a 20-year-old striker from River Plate, who moved up to the main squad two years ago. However, he hardly played last year due to injuries. This leaves him with a modest number of 17 official matches in the first team, in which he scored twice. Before that, he scored 18 goals in 30 games for the reserves. Ruberto still has a contract with the Argentinian top club until the end of 2027. Transfer market estimates its value at 2 million euros.
Feyenoord currently has Ayase Ueda, Casper Tengstedt and Shaqueel van Persie as strikers in the first team selection. Ueda is the undisputed number one, while Van Persie is making a name for himself in a short time with strong substitute appearances. He may have now surpassed the expensive and disappointing Tengstedt in the pecking order. Ruberto is perhaps seen as the striker of the future in Rotterdam. The main question is what that means for the position of Van Persie, who hopes to become the first choice in De Kuip in the long term.
The potential of top talent Van Persie
In the football podcast of the Algemeen Dagblad Mossou expresses his enthusiasm about the young Van Persie descendant. “Shaqueel van Persie suffered a bit last weekend due to Sparta’s goal in the last minute. But he is a really good striker, he will be a good striker, let me put it that way.”
The journalist states that one should not immediately praise everything, but Mossou does see potential. “He is a really good striker, he will be a good striker, let me put it this way. You shouldn’t start a hype too quickly, you have to be vigilant about that. Only he has a lot. He has good technique and good length.”
