Whistles, insults and boos. This is what we have been hearing in the wings of Sanchez Pizjuan for several seasons now. After winning numerous titles in the 2000s and 2010s, making the law reign in the Europa League in particular, Sevilla FC was engulfed in a sporting, financial and institutional crisis which made it a regular in the second half of the table. Far from the first places and the last rounds of European competition to which we were accustomed with the Sevillians, today eleventh in the La Liga standings.
Internal clan wars to the point where a father and son (the Del Nido) even went to war with each other, difficult financial situation and catastrophic results; we can say it, Sevilla FC is only a shadow of itself. At the moment, the club is at a turning point in its history. Numerous buyout offers have arrived on the table, including one which has caught the attention of more than one in Spain, since we find, at the head of the project… a certain Sergio Ramos. Former player of the club and big name in Spanish football, the one who is looking for a club to relaunch his career also intends to save the club of his heart, he who grew up in Seville in a family sevillistabefore defending its colors.
Ramos wants to save Sevilla
In recent hours, many details have leaked about this takeover project to which the former Real Madrid and La Roja man is linked. This is an offer of 400 million euros to take 100% of the club’s capital, although the investors first want to do a full audit of the club’s accounts. Obviously, this is not an amount that Ramos would put out of his pocket, and the veteran central defender is above all the image and face of a project led by foreign funds whose identity remains unknown. To these 400 million euros, other investments would then have to be added to clean up the club’s accounts and develop certain sectors and branches of the Sevillian team, not to mention the transfer window.
The only problem for the moment is that an offer made by an American group is currently higher than that of the Ramos project. The bad relationship between the former number 4 of Real, which dates back more than twenty years and his departure from Real already, and the current owners could also complicate the situation. But as the Spanish press indicates, Ramos is determined and he wants to do everything to put his club back on the right path, and he knows that he can count on the support of the Sevillian public opinion, who are aware of his love for the club and who know that his intentions are good. Regardless, the Spaniard’s non-football business is doing quite well. His real estate company exceeded 2 million euros in revenue during its first year of existence, and he even built an empire by having invested in stone, but also in cattle breeding, fashion and art. Note that if the club were to be sold to the project led by Ramos, the latter would not have the right to sign as a player in a La Liga club… In Spain, and not just in Seville, this issue is being followed very closely and is already unleashing passions.
