In the last eight years, no one in Lyon had such an opening season as Šulc.
In 23 games, he scored 11 goals and assisted on five. No one is more efficient in this regard.
He needed a minimum of time to acclimatize to French football, as soon as he got regular minutes, he became the club’s driving force.
In the summer, he joined the team for 7.5 million euros plus bonuses. Some critics thought it was too much for a footballer from the Czech top flight, especially when coach Paulo Fonseca initially let him sit on the bench.
“Pavel Šulc was an amazing summer signing for Olympique. It’s unbelievable how little is enough for him to score a goal,” recognized Spanish football journalist Andrés Onrubia Ramos pointed out the qualities of the Czech offensive player.
The value of the Czech representative, who has a contract with the French club until 2029, is also rising thanks to the statistics that Šulc records match after match and thanks to which Lyon collects points at home and in Europe.
According to the Transfermarkt server, a potential candidate for Lyon’s top scorer would have to withdraw at least 12 million euros from their bank account, i.e. less than 300 million crowns.
For the currently fifth Ligue 1 team, Šulc is therefore also a solid investment that can soon pay off well. And Viktoria from Pilsen can also benefit from this again, which according to the French media has a fifteen percent share of any further sales in the contract.
“He’s great. A lot of people compare him to the German striker Thomas Müller and I can only confirm that. I played with both of them and I definitely see some similarities,” Corentin Tolisso praised his teammate’s killer instinct.
The well-known Lyon podcaster and football analyst with the nickname Mick, who summed up the performance of Šulec on Saturday in the traditional YouTube show LE Debrief, who scored two goals in a 3:1 win over Monaco, sees it similarly.
“Let’s call it smell, instinct, intuition or game IQ, but he is simply Mr. Footballer in the purest sense of the word. There are about one percent of such players in the world, he is atypical, a complete rarity and I have no doubt that he will end the season with at least 20 goals to his credit,” predicts the Lyon football expert.
Lyon is not expecting anything easy now, after Monaco they will have another battle with a direct competitor for the cup positions. He will go to the field of Lille, which is currently fourth in the table.
