Stale Solbakken, Norway’s coach, once again addressed Andreas Schjelderup’s situation at Benfica and was clear about the future of the young international, arguing that the solution involves a change of club. Speaking to the Norwegian website NRKthe coach admitted that the winger is going through a delicate moment at Luz.
«Schjelderup is in a difficult situation, it is precarious and I hope they find a solution», said Solbakken about the player’s limited space in the Red squad.
The selector’s message was even more direct when he talked about the short term.
«Schjelderup has to change clubs», he said.
The topic revives the controversy of last October, when Solbakken led the most tense moment with José Mourinho, Benfica’s coach, by publicly questioning the player’s management and lack of minutes, words that did not sit well with the Portuguese coach and generated a rare verbal tussle between the national team and the club.
In the same context, Solbakken also referred to Ørjan Nyland, Sevilla’s goalkeeper, assuring that he “has to leave” to play regularly again, unlike Oscar Bobb, from Manchester City, for whom he showed confidence.
«We have an excellent dialogue with Manchester City. Pep [Guardiola] has been very honest and constructive with us and I believe that they will resolve the situation together», he said.
Remember, this season Schjelderup has already played 22 games for Benfica, having scored two goals and three assists.
