SC Heerenveen: Veteran Departs After 118 Games

SC Heerenveen says goodbye to Pawel Bochniewicz. The Polish defender leaves Friesland after 118 official matches and moves to his old club Górnik Zabrze, the current number two in Poland. Because Bochniewicz no longer had any prospects of playing time, he was given the green light for a transfer.

Bochniewicz came to Heerenveen in 2020 for just over one million euros and became a permanent fixture in the Frisian defense. However, his career was interrupted several times by serious injuries. In December 2024 he tore his knee ligament, after which he only made two more appearances. Earlier, in 2021, he suffered a cruciate ligament injury, which forced him to miss the entire 2021/22 season. The three-time Poland international hopes to regain a starting position at Górnik Zabrze.

Technical manager Johan Hansma thinks Bochniewicz’s departure is a shame. “Pawel has meant a lot to SC Heerenveen over the past six years. He has been a model professional, on and off the field. Even after his injuries, he has shown what resilience is by fighting his way back. Unfortunately, his prospect of a lot of playing time this season was minimal,” said Hansma.

With his return to Górnik Zabrze, Bochniewicz gets his desired transfer. He already played for the Polish club between 2017 and 2020, for which he completed 92 official matches at the time.
