Sansepolcro Robberies: 2 Arrests Made by Police

Arezzo, 6 January 2026 – The police have arrested – we read in a press release – during a normal territorial control service, two men from the province of Foggia who, at the sight of the military crew of the Monterchi station (AR), they abandoned the car and fled on foot through the countryside on the border between Tuscany and Umbria. Prolonged searches were necessary, conducted by the soldiers of the Sansepolcro Army and the Carabinieri Forestry Units of the Arezzo Group, as well as the helicopter of the 4th Carabinieri Helicopter Unit of Pisa to track down both fugitives and arrest them. The Carabinieri soldiers found and seized from their car, stolen in Puglia and having cloned license plates “borrowed” from a car of an unsuspecting woman resident in Abruzzo, a pistol with 12 bullets, theater masks, baseball caps, gloves and a bucket with three-pointed nails, often used to prevent pursuit by the police.

The two were taken to the Arezzo prison, at the disposal of the local Public Prosecutor’s Office which opened an investigation file against them. In particular, the Carabinieri of Monterchi, during a normal checkpoint carried out near a refueling area, they checked a car, the occupants of which, at the sight of the Carabinieri, abandoned the vehicle and fled towards the surrounding woods. The first, a 43-year-old from the province of Foggia, was immediately stopped and subjected to a personal and vehicular search, being found in possession of a working pistol, with modified serial number and 12 bullets, rubber “theatre” masks, gloves, balaclava, baseball caps, as well as a bucket full of three-pointed nails made by hand and used to puncture the tires of police cars in the event of a chase. The car, however, was found to have been stolen in the province of Foggia, after tampering with the ignition cables and insertion of tools into the pin of the relevant block. The license plates mounted on the vehicle were found to be cloned from a car of the same model in the province of L’Aquila.

The searches of the other fugitive, conducted by the Carabinieri of the Sansepolcro Company together with the Forest Carabinieri of Sansepolcro and Badia Tedalda, as well as the helicopter of the 4th Helicopter Unit of Pisa, lasted for 5 hours, until, thanks to the use of night vision goggles, the man was identified as he was returning to the town of Monterchi, probably to steal a vehicle with which to return to the region of origin. The Carabinieri stopped him before he could reach the town, also because they did not know if he was also armed, like his accomplice. The man, a 47-year-old, also from the province of Foggia, tried to free himself and resume his escape, but was unable to do so. The activity “rewarded” the territorial control device implemented by the military in these days in which the “theft situation” in the province is at the center of attention. The two arrested – concludes the press release from the CC – with numerous criminal records, taken to the Arezzo prison, will have to explain to the Arezzo Public Prosecutor’s Office what their real intentions were, behind their move from Puglia to Tuscany.
