Rospigliosi: 2027 Pan Am Games – Federation Challenges

The president in charge of the Congress, Fernando Rospigliosi, held a working meeting with the head of the Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD), Sergio Ludeña Visalo, with the aim of reinforcing the visibility of the national sports federations and ensuring their adequate coordination for the 2027 Pan American and Parapan American Games.

During the meeting, both authorities evaluated progress, pending gaps and institutional coordination mechanisms that allow consolidating support for Peruvian athletes.

In this context, the head of the Board of Directors highlighted that the country is in a decisive phase of the organizational process and highlighted the need to maintain constant support for the federations.

“Here we are, at the Peruvian Sports Institute, to see the organization of the 2027 Pan American Games. The president (of the IPD) has been giving us a presentation of the progress and the things that are still missing. The relationship with the federations and the support for all the athletes,” he stated.

Likewise, he highlighted that an international delegation will arrive this week to comprehensively review the state of preparation, which requires accelerating decisions and strengthening management.

Later, Fernando Rospigliosi recalled that the experience accumulated in Lima 2019 constitutes a solid foundation for the new continental challenge. “The experience we have had in 2019 has been very important; it has helped build the infrastructure we have today. Naturally, several aspects must improve, but we will rise to the occasion,” he said.

For his part, Ludeña Visalo highlighted that the week is decisive due to the arrival of the president of Panam Sports along with his delegation, who will supervise the contractual commitments and the planned venues.

“Approximately 6,500 athletes are expected. There are two events: the Pan American Games and the Parapan American Games. We are going to review each venue in situ to identify what is missing and how to improve,” he said. He added that the schedule is demanding and that the contracts require months of installation, so coordination with Congress will be permanent to guarantee high-level facilities.

It is worth noting that the sports plan includes disciplines such as athletics, badminton, canoeing, cycling, fencing, weightlifting, rowing, squash, racquetball, table tennis, archery, sailing, amateur wrestling, karate, judo and taekwondo.

In this framework, it is necessary to mention that Panam Sports (officially the Pan American Sports Organization) brings together 41 National Olympic Committees of the Americas and regulates the Olympic Movement in the region.
