Ronaldo Statue Fire: Portugal ‘God’s Warning’ Stunt

In Madeira, it is sacrilege. This Tuesday, a man set fire to a statue of Cristiano Ronaldo, the local star, before posting the video on his social networks. “This is the last warning from God,” he wrote in the caption of the images posted on Instagram, where we can observe him attempting some poorly mastered dance steps.

Despite the flammable liquid being poured on the statue, the fire was quickly extinguished. However, the act remains difficult to understand, as illustrated by the look of a passerby in the background of the video. “What you did was very unnecessary. All this to get views,” lamented a subscriber in the comments.

The individual was quickly identified by local police and arrested. According to the newspaper “The Sun”, he was admitted to a psychiatric hospital “for his own safety”. He was already known to law enforcement for similar acts.

On Facebook, Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister, Katia Aveiro, expressed her disgust following this act of vandalism. “I find this act in itself dishonorable, but what I find even more shameful is the envy surrounding it and the rage that some frustrated and unloved fools display in public in a shameful way, which leaves me, as a Portuguese person, ashamed and sad,” she wrote.
