Rockets’ Adams Out for Season: Injury Update

Steven Adams of the Houston Rockets underwent season-ending surgery on his left ankle, sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania on Wednesday.

Adams, 32, was injured Jan. 18 during a win over the New Orleans Pelicans while battling with Zion Williamson near the basket. Moving to help Alperen Sengun defend against Williamson, Adams jumped to block a shot from the Pelicans winger and immediately held his left ankle as he returned to the floor.

Adams is averaging 5.8 points and 8.6 rebounds in 22.8 minutes for the Rockets, who lead the NBA in rebounding (49 per game).

This is another major injury for the Rockets, already deprived of Fred VanVleet. Houston, however, is still among the best teams in the West with a 28-16 record and is just two games out of second place.
