Rocher Sports Center Reopening – Weekend Details

Closed for nine months for a major renovation, the Rocher Sports Center, built in 1977, is reopening its doors following a major project carried out by the City. The objective was to modernize the installations, improve their energy efficiency and offer better reception conditions to all users.

The reopening is accompanied by a sustained sports program. On Saturday, the center hosts several basketball matches in the U14 and U16, men’s and women’s categories. On Sunday, the public will be able to attend the semi-final of the Patrick Baumann Swiss Cup, which will pit Nyon Basket Féminin against BBC Troistorrents from 4 p.m. Students will return to their gym on Monday.

With a surface area of 1,110 square meters, the main room can accommodate up to 750 spectators. It has been completely upgraded in order to better control heat and light, while increasing the comfort of athletes and the public. The building is also equipped with installations promoting the production of renewable energy.

Improved security and durability

The additional spaces have also been the subject of improvements. The locker rooms have been sanitized and security measures reinforced, in particular thanks to the creation and expansion of emergency exits. The dojo and rhythm room benefited from similar interventions, focused on comfort and sustainability.

The entrance to the center has been completely redeveloped. It now includes a much more functional refreshment area.

Continuing the work carried out inside the building, the exterior developments will continue until spring. They aim to provide a more convivial setting and to strengthen the biodiversity of the site. A revegetation of the courtyard with tree plantations is planned. The wooded strip along the Asse will be renatured and equipped with leisure facilities.

Easy access for all audiences

Particular attention was paid to accessibility. Circulation has been improved and an elevator has been installed to facilitate access for people with reduced mobility. The site is also preparing to host future health sports programs.

Already reopened to students at the start of the last school year, the swimming pool is now also accessible to aquatic clubs.

The renovation project was designed and carried out by the Architram architectural office, in Renens, and the work management was provided by the FL Partenaires office, in Lausanne. In September 2023, the Municipal Council validated a loan of 22.3 million francs to finance this project.

With this renovation, the City of Nyon confirms its desire to offer modern, sustainable and accessible sports infrastructures to all audiences. The Rocher Sports Center is thus beginning a new phase serving clubs, schools and the population of Nyon.
