What was supposed to be a routine exam turned into a stressful three-hour procedure. Roberto Carlos went to a hospital in Sao Paulo to inquire about the health of one of his legs, where there was a small blood clot, but a heart problem called out the medical profession. The MRI revealed a problem requiring the placement of a catheter.
The operation was only supposed to last forty minutes. It ultimately dragged on due to a complication that arose during the procedure. Fortunately, the former Brazilian international (127 caps, 11 goals) is now out of danger. From his native country, where he was on vacation, he assured the AS media that he was out of the woods: “I’m fine now,” he simply said.
An observation
The former left-back (52 years old) nevertheless remains under surveillance in hospital. The ex-Real Madrid player is expected to remain under observation for 48 hours. Retired from the field since 2015, the 2002 world champion has not become a stranger to the footballing sphere. Roberto Carlos is regularly present at official events – such as the presentation of the Golden Boot to Kylian Mbappé – as an ambassador for the Merengues.
