Well, then you are on ceiling duty when you are in bed. What on earth was I witnessing? Six goals conceded, one of which two minutes after kick-off, one just before half time and one immediately after. I really didn’t know what I was looking at.
Nobody did what they had to do. Vitezslav Jaros pretended there was electricity on the ball, Mika Godts stopped the fight after a push to act aggrieved again and Josip Sutalo covered for air. For the tenth time (!) in a row, Ajax failed to beat AZ. Our club was unprecedentedly embarrassed in that stadium next to that windy roundabout.
Owen Wijndal boldly stated afterwards that he will not simply be sent away. Yet that was exactly what happened after an hour of playing football, when he planted his studs in Wouter Goes’ leg. If you immediately get red from Bas Nijhuis, then you have done something. Wijndal regretted his sins and mainly meant that he would not simply let himself be sent away from Ajax.
Everything will be fine. Ajax was trumped on absolutely all fronts. Afterwards, the players reported to the frustrated away section with their tails between their legs. There they were advised to play football. Anton Gaaei thought he would do well to throw his shirt into the box. The Dane received this immediately back to sender. He could keep it. Not good, shirt back.

The brave fighters in the away section made themselves heard from the very first whistle. They started the match better than the players, but saw the home team throw much more energy into the match. Everyone knows how much AZ wants to beat Ajax, but our players were not ready for that. Unbelievable actually. 750 tickets became available for the cup match. Of these, 601 were sold.
Our lobby to also open up the sale of cups to Ajax players without a national away card has been going on for years. We will continue to work intensively on this. Unfortunately, Ajax, which determines the away schedule, has not gone along with this so far. However, we continue to shake the tree. After all, that section could easily have been full.
