Rally Decline: Environmental Impact & Safety Concerns

Long seen as the holy grail of motorsport, the Dakar rally no longer has the aura it once had. If the “Paris-Dakar”, now “Dakar rally”, remains associated with extreme adventure and human and mechanical exploits in the desert, its 48th edition, which opens this Saturday January 3 in Saudi Arabia, now seems to take place in relative indifference. Created in 1978 by Thierry Sabine, the race today struggles to generate the enthusiasm of yesteryear.
