Ragusa Health Crisis: Modica ER & Scicli 118 Issues

The city secretariat of Forza Italia Scicli denounces with great concern the serious conditions affecting healthcare in the Modica and Scicli district, where citizens’ right to health is seriously compromised by staff shortages and evident organizational dysfunctions.

In a note, the Forza Italia Secretariat states:

“The emergency room of the “Maggiore–Baglieri” hospital in Modica is now collapsing: the excessive influx of patients, exacerbated by the flu peak, clashes with the chronic lack of doctors, nurses and healthcare workers, particularly in the waiting area, forcing numerous patients to wait long periods and spend prolonged periods on stretchers.

Added to this already critical picture are the serious problems of the 118 emergency service in Scicli, the only health facility still operational in the area, frequently penalized by staff shortages and service interruptions even at night and on holidays. Further critical issues arise from the failure to fully operate the PTEs of Scicli and Pozzallo and from the failure to start the medical service.

«The situation is now unsustainable – declares the Secretary of Forza Italia – and requires immediate and concrete interventions. It is essential to urgently start a discussion with the ASP and with the Regional Health Department to guarantee the continuity of emergency services and the strengthening of local healthcare”.

Forza Italia strongly reiterates that health protection represents an absolute priority and can no longer be the subject of postponements or stopgap solutions: citizens deserve certain answers, efficient services and full respect for a fundamental right enshrined in the Constitution.
