The Puerto Rico Baseball Federation She is surprised by the number of names she received on Friday afternoon from Major League Baseball (MLB) of players who will not be able to participate in the World Baseball Classica situation that has even led to considering the possibility of withdrawing from this year’s tournament.
This was expressed this Saturday by the president of the Baseball Federation, Dr. Jose Quilesin an interview with Jay Fonsecawhere he revealed that not only Francisco Lindor has not received permission to play, but the pitchers were also restricted on Friday Jose Berrios, Yacksel Ríos y Jovani Moránin addition to the receiver Victor Caratini.
“And they are still under evaluation Edwin Diaz y Fernando Cruz”Quiles said on Fonseca’s YouTube channel.
The names received on Friday are added to other previously announced casualties, such as those of Carlos Correa, Kike Hernandez, Emilio Pagan y Alexis Diaz.
Given this scenario, Quiles indicated that he remains waiting to see how the process will continue to determine whether or not the national team will compete in the tournament.
“I submitted the list on December 3 with 35 names and you write to me on January 30, at 5:00 pm, to tell me that these players cannot play, when I have until February 3 to make my team,” questioned Quiles.
“The Classic failed. You know firsthand that they are not going to give permission to Lindor, when they themselves announced on April 14 that Lindor was going to be the captain of the team. And now, on January 30, you say he can’t,” he added.
Lindor was reported Friday afternoon as an AWOL player. because in the offseason he underwent surgery on his elbow to clear the area. Although it was not a major procedure, it was enough for the insurance companies to deny the guarantee.

“That deserves many explanations,” Quiles added. “We are going to continue fighting.”
“I understand that those who are boycotting and putting their foot down are the team owners. And given that, we are considering that if our players are not going to participate and we cannot compete on equal terms, we are considering not participating in the Classic. We’ll see what happens these days, but that is a decision almost, almost made. For dignity.”
The World Baseball Classic will be held from March 5 to 17 and Hiram Bithorn Stadium will be one of the venues for the group stage. Puerto Rico will be part of Group A along with Canada, Colombia, Cuba and Panama.
