Tensions between the Chelsea board and manager Enzo Maresca are increasing, Fabrizio Romano reported on Thursday.
Two weeks ago, Maresca said something remarkable at a press conference after a match win against Everton (2-0). He said he had gone through a difficult period. “The last 48 hours have been the worst since I joined the club because many people have not supported us,” the manager said.
When asked who he meant by that, Maresca remained vague. “People in general,” replied the Italian. He did not clarify whether he was referring to the supporters or the media. “I love the fans and we are very happy with the fans,” he responded.
Since then, things have been fairly quiet around Maresca and Chelsea, until Thursday morning when Romano posted on X: “The situation has become very tense over the past 24 hours.”
“It’s about the manager and his future. It has nothing to do with the results, it won’t depend on that. The situation is tense and discussions are going on now.
If Maresca does indeed leave The Blues, he may be back on the bench at the top of the Premier League after the summer. According to The Athletic, he is in good shape at Manchester City.
