In the Czech extra league, Slovak hockey player Kristián Pospíšil caught a great form and got into the top ten productivity of the entire competition. He succeeded mainly thanks to the fact that he scored six points in the last two duels. It was in the matches he played shortly after learning that he had not been nominated for Slovakia’s Olympics.
Slovakia recognized the nomination of the hockey team for the February Winter Olympic Games in Milan. Head coach Vladimír Országh nominated three goalkeepers, eight defenders and fourteen forwards.
Kristián Pospíšil won the title with Kometa Brno last season, and in the current one he is significantly helping her with points. In 39 duels, he scored 10 goals and added 23 assists. He is thus tied for ninth place in productivity, sharing it with Libor Hudáček.
Another Slovak, Róbert Lantoši, is in eleventh place, he has only two points less. Of this trio, only Hudáček was nominated by Vladimír Országh.
Pospíšil was particularly successful in the duels he played on Friday and Sunday. That is, those after Thursday’s announcement of Slovakia’s nomination for the Olympics.
First, he contributed two goals and two assists to a 7:2 win over Litvínov. Then, with a precise hit and a pass, he helped to win over Mladá Boleslava after extra time. In total, he has a balance of 4+6 in the last five games.
Pospíšil also sees a connection with the non-nomination behind his point harvest. “Sometimes I don’t even understand why the points are coming. I’ll even say it out loud. I think it’s some kind of karma for not taking me to the national team. I have extra motivation to prove that I belong there.” said according to Hokej.cz.
Hockey Slovakia recognized the nomination of the national team for the February Olympics in Italy on Thursday. Coach Vladimír Országh did not surprise too much with the list of nominated players and bet on certainty, but even so, Slovakia will probably have the youngest team at the entire Olympics.
He also revealed how he reacted to the information that he was not nominated. “I won’t say that it was easy for me that evening. I was definitely angry, sad, but life goes on. On the other hand, the Olympics haven’t started yet. I’m doing everything to at least show myself that I belong there.”
In the nomination is his brother Martin Pospíšil, who, however, did not play a single game for the Calgary Flames this season due to an injury, and the date of his return has not yet been determined. “I don’t want to say anything, because every time I say something, it turns around. I don’t want to comment on it, but I believe that everything will turn out as it should,” he said about the condition of his brother Kristián.
He can still make it to the Olympics. If someone drops out of the nomination due to injury, someone will be nominated as a substitute.
“I’m trying, I’m still motivated. But I don’t wish anything bad on anyone, I don’t want to go there because someone got hurt. I’ve accepted that I’m not going there. The guys from the national team are my friends and I don’t wish them injury. My dream is to play with my brother in the national team, so when he goes there, I definitely want our dream to come true.” added Kristián Pospíšil for Hokej.cz.
On Thursday afternoon, we learned about Slovakia’s nomination for the 2026 Olympics hockey tournament in Italy. Did Vladimír Országh surprise or is he taking proven and expected players to Milan? Why are there no AHL hockey players in it and who was surprised by the nomination? And how to solve the unusual overpressure? This was also addressed in the latest part of the show Trefné střiľenie Patrik Mitas (editor of Slovak Television), Martin Toth-Vaňo (editor of ŠPORT.sk) and former hockey player Juraj Mikúš.
