Pilsen Police & Football: Portugal’s Impact

Pilsen police officers and constables held maneuvers on Thursday afternoon. They were overseeing security for a Europa League match between Viktoria Plzeň and FC Porto. However, the home and Portuguese fans did not make too much noise, the traffic safety measures were carried out without major complications.

“Throughout the event, police officers from the Plzeň police station mainly focused on surveillance in the vicinity of the stadium and adjacent roads. To a greater extent, we dealt with traffic violations, most often in connection with the incorrect parking of vehicles outside the designated places and parking lots. During the measures, the police officers also intervened at one smoldering trash can, which was extinguished. Several violations in the area of public order were also dealt with, but to a lesser extent. The entire course of the measures took place peacefully in spirit, he managed without serious incidents and without the need for more extensive interventions,” informed Tereza Weidl for the Plzeň Municipal Police.

From the afternoon, the Pilsen police officers also supervised public order, safety and the flow of road traffic in the city center and the vicinity of the stadium. “In connection with the football match, we noticed the use of pyrotechnics by fans of the visiting team, which we are dealing with. We did not notice any major disturbance of public order when fans came to the match,” said police spokeswoman Eva Červenková.
