This means that the accommodation for the Eindhoven residents could soon have a capacity of more than 56,000 places and become the largest in the Netherlands, the newspaper says. The Johan Cruijff Arena officially has 56,120 places.
The Municipal Executive of the municipality of Eindhoven supports PSV’s plans, which is currently in preliminary consultations with several parties about financing and further procedures for the large-scale expansion. The club also has to decide whether it will build in stages or whether the expansion will be realized all at once.
PSV is not afraid of empty places, whether 10,000 or 20,000 new places are added. “Market researchers have previously concluded that significant growth of the Philips Stadium will not leave empty spaces and that interest is not only great because PSV has been performing excellently for a few years,” it said.
