American basketball player Paul George, small forward for the Philadelphia 76ers, has been suspended for 25 days for violating the anti-drug regulations of the NBA, the main basketball league in the United States. It has made known the league on Saturday, without providing further details. In a statement sent to ESPN, however, George himself has admitted of having taken unauthorized drugs to try to manage a mental health problem: in the statement he apologizes to the team, to the fans and to the club, and says that he will use the suspension period to ensure that he returns to full fitness.
George is 35 years old, between 2019 and 2024 he played for the Los Angeles Clippers and this season he averaged 16 points per game. His suspension will begin with the one scheduled for Saturday night against the New Orleans Pelicans, and it has been estimated that it will cost him approximately 11.7 million dollars on an annual salary of almost 52. George should be able to return to play next March 25, when the 76ers meet the Chicago Bulls.
