Pascal Groß leaves BVB and returns to Brighton
Pascal Groß has rarely played from the start recently. Now the 34-year-old is leaving Borussia Dortmund again. His return to England is financially lucrative for BVB.
National soccer player Pascal Groß has left Borussia Dortmund and will play again for Brighton & Hove Albion in the English Premier League. The Bundesliga club is estimated to receive a transfer fee of almost three million euros for the 34-year-old midfielder. The clubs did not provide any official information about this. Groß’s contract in Dortmund would have expired in the summer.
The Mannheimer played for the Premier League club coached by German Fabian Hürzeler from 2017 to 2024 before moving to Dortmund. “It’s been a lifelong dream come true for me to be able to play for Borussia Dortmund,” said Groß after his move.
Pascal Groß was recently only a substitute in Dortmund
After a mostly good first year at BVB, the veteran barely played under coach Niko Kovac and was last considered for the national team in September. Back at his old place of work, Groß now wants to recommend himself again for the World Cup in the summer. “He has now approached us with the desire for a change that would allow him to get more playing time than he has so far this season,” said Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl.
“This hurts me personally a lot. I valued him very much as a person and as a player,” said Kovac at the training camp in Marbella, where BVB had already traveled without Groß. “He wants to go to the World Cup, that’s his declared goal. We didn’t want to get in the way of that for him.”
Kovac will be preparing his team in Andalusia for the second half of the season until next Thursday. BVB will travel directly to Frankfurt next week, where the next Bundesliga game after the short Christmas break at Eintracht Frankfurt is on January 9th.
Julien Duranville and Cole Campbell, who are also considered candidates for a change, flew to southern Spain. Nothing should happen on the access page except in exceptional cases.
