Paquetá Returns to Flamengo: $50M+ Deal Confirmed

Lucas Paquetá is already back home. The Brazilian midfielder arrived in Rio de Janeiro this Thursday to complete his return to Flamengo, a club that signed him from West Ham United for 42 million euros (about $50.2 million dollars). the most expensive transfer in the history of Brazilian football.

One day after the Rio club made the operation official, the Brazilian international arrived from England on a private flight with his wife and two children. At the airport he was received by nearly 200 fans who celebrated their return after almost a decade in European football.

Formed in the lower categories of Flamengo, Paquetá expressed his excitement at returning to the club that launched him into professionalism. “I was always very Flamengo. Nothing took it out of my head that one day I was going to return home. Maybe Flamengo didn’t need me, but I did need Flamengo,” he said in statements broadcast by the club’s official channel.

After his arrival, Paquetá underwent the required medical examinations and will be officially presented as a reinforcement to immediately join the team’s training sessions.

Paquetá made his professional debut with Flamengo in 2016 and returned to the club after almost a decade in Europe, where he played for AC Milan, Olympique Lyon and West Ham United.
