This is what hockey expert Elliotte Friedman said in the most recent edition of his podcast 32 Thoughts.
The Blueshirts recently announced a rebuild and that they had no plans to offer the 34-year-old Russian a contract extension. Whoever could become an unrestricted free agent next summer will likely be traded by the NHL trade deadline.
Panarin, however, controls his destiny, since he has a complete no-trade clause.
“I think Panarin would love to play in Florida with [le gardien Sergei] Bobrovsky, but I don’t know if it will be possible, Friedman said. “We should never rule out the possibility that the Panthers will do what it takes to get the player they want, but it’s going to be difficult.”
The winger has an impact of just over $11.6 million on the Rangers’ payroll. Currently, the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions only have about $1.8 million in cap space.
In 2025-2026, Panarin competes in sa 11e campaign in the Bettman circuit. He has 56 points, including 19 goals, in 50 games so far this season.
