“Dear Roseto,
in writing to you, my hand is as heavy as my heart.
This morning I resigned as the Head Coach of your basketball team.
It was a painful but necessary choice, above all due to the immense affection and respect that I have developed for you in these “only” two months.
There are non-negotiable values, or at least they aren’t for me. I put everything into play, as a coach and as a man, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough.
I haven’t been able to give you the satisfaction you deserve and that you will certainly have, sooner or later. But I swear, I gave you everything. Sorry, dear Roseto.
I made many things wrong, I can’t help but admit it, but always in good faith. Incorrect technical and human evaluations, which cost dearly (especially the latter).
I take full responsibility, as anyone in my position should.
I thank you, dear Roseto, for showing me love even with so many defeats, because you know how to recognize those who give you everything. You are strict, sometimes spiteful, but you are fair.
I thank you for introducing me to wonderful people, who even in dark moments have been my unconditional friends, giving me human recognition that is worth more than a thousand championships won.
Thank you all!
Listing you would be long and, being no longer very young, I would risk my memory failing and forgetting someone important. For all of you, I quote Alfonso and Gabriella from Hercules.
You made me feel at home in the most difficult times and, now more than ever, I know how it feels when something you love is taken away from you.
Allow me, dear Roseto, to thank the club for the opportunity it gave me (coaching Pallacanestro Roseto is not for everyone and it is and always will be an honor) and the players who sweated on the pitch with me and for me, collecting less than they deserved.
I wish them all the best of luck for the season finale… everyone! Even to those who didn’t want to shake my hand when I left. They will understand later in their lives how useless their gesture was. But we all need it now! So come on guys, together you can do it.
Thanks, last but not least, to my staff (doctor, physicist, technician): good people and great professionals, always ready to support me.
I will be eternally indebted to Marco Gullotto and Francesco Tricarico: you are good coaches and SERIES A PEOPLE.
Hello dear Roseto, I will miss you tremendously.
Roseto degli Abruzzi, 23 January 2026”.
