Nigeria and Mozambique faced each other in the last 16 round match of the 35th African Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025), hosted by Morocco. While Nigeria won the match 4-0 and advanced to the quarter-finals, the match was marked by the fight between Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman.
In the match in which Lookman scored 1 goal and 2 assists and Osimhen scored 2 goals, the two stars came into conflict in the 62nd minute. After the corner kick in the match in which Nigeria was leading 3-0, tension suddenly rose between Osimhen and Lookman. The two stars started arguing in the middle of the field and walked towards each other. Nigerian National Team captain Wilfried Ndidi, who plays for Beşiktaş, intervened and prevented the discussion from turning into a fight.
While the two stars had difficulty calming down after this incident, Osimhen angrily pointed to the bench and said that he wanted to leave the game. Thereupon, Nigerian National Team Coach Eric Chelle took Osimhen out of the game in the 68th minute and replaced him with Moses Simon.
