NBA: Orlando and da Silva win after overtime
The Orlando Magic continue their NBA rollercoaster ride with a narrow win at the Brooklyn Nets. European champion Tristan da Silva shows an appealing performance.
The Orlando Magic with European basketball champion Tristan da Silva continued their ups and downs in the NBA with a win. Thanks to a converted three-point throw by top star Paolo Banchero with the clock running out, the Magic won 104:103 after overtime at the Brooklyn Nets. This continued a bizarre series for the team from Florida: Since the defeat at the Denver Nuggets shortly before Christmas, games won and lost in Orlando have always alternated.
The German international da Silva scored a solid 14 points and converted six of his ten shots from the field. He also grabbed three rebounds and provided two assists. The two world champions Franz and Moritz Wagner were still missing due to injuries. The Magic’s best player was Banchero with 30 points and a strong 14 rebounds. After the win, Orlando is in sixth place in the Eastern Conference and has its eyes on the playoffs. Next Thursday the Magic will be in Berlin for an NBA game.
Knicks end negative series – Lakers lose top game
Meanwhile, the New York Knicks ended their earnings crisis with German professional Ariel Hukporti. After four defeats in a row, the Knicks celebrated a 123:111 win against the Los Angeles Clippers at Madison Square Garden. However, Hukporti actually played no role and was only on the field for a minute, but at least collected two rebounds during this time.
Champion Oklahoma City Thunder only barely avoided their third defeat in a row. Without the injured German center Isaiah Hartenstein, the Thunder won at home against the Utah Jazz 129:125 after overtime. Oklahoma star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander stood out with 46 points.
Lakers lose, but Doncic outplays Wembanyama
In the top game of the Western Conference between the San Antonio Spurs and the Los Angeles Lakers, the team from Texas prevailed, the Spurs won 107:91. However, Lakers professional Doncic clearly won the duel between the two top stars Victor Wembanyama and Luka Doncic. With 38 points, ten rebounds and ten assists, the Slovenian achieved a triple-double with double-digit scores in three categories. Coming off the bench, Frenchman Wembanyama contributed 16 points and 14 rebounds for San Antonio.
