Omri Gandelman (25) is about to leave AA Gent for Lecce in Serie A. Both clubs reached an agreement on a permanent transfer. Only the midfielder’s medical tests still have to be taken.
This morning Gandelman traveled to Italy and upon arrival at the airport he already showed off a scarf from Lecce. If the medical examination goes according to plan, the deal will be made official.
Contrary to previous reports in Italian media, this is not a rental deal with a mandatory purchase option. AA Gent sells Gandelman directly to the Italian club. They would receive around 4.5 million euros.
Omri Gandelman is not rented to Lecce, but sold directly
Gandelman came over from Maccabi Netanja in 2023 and grew into an important force at the Buffaloes. In 107 games he scored 33 times and provided 14 assists, making his value to the team clear.
This season, the Israeli midfielder has already scored seven goals and is currently Ghent’s top scorer. His departure will be a big loss for the Buffaloes, who will have to look for a worthy replacement.
The fact that Ghent is allowed to directly credit the transfer amount to the accounts is a stroke of luck. Previously, there was talk of a rental with a mandatory purchase option if certain conditions were met. But Ghent did not want to go along with that.
