Olympics Dreams Dashed: Fourth Attempt Falls Short

That’s not what slalom skier Kristoffer Jakobsen wants.

For the fourth time in six attempts this season, the Swede drove out.

The Olympics in Milan and Cortina feel far away for the Swedish alpine skiers.

– The form and performances have not been in line with what we require, said the chairman of the Swedish Olympic Committee (SOK), Fredrik Joulamo, earlier this week.

In the World Cup competitions in Adelboden, Switzerland, Kristoffer Jakobsen made yet another attempt to show some kind of form before the championship.

Then the 31-year-old got a wrong cut and went out already in the first run.

Sweden’s Olympic squad now looks set to be without alpine men’s skiers, and a third straight Olympics for Jakobsen feels remote.

– I would think that would be very sad and I think they would feel the same. We want to send men’s alpine skiers – but we also have a mission, and it is based on assessing that there is capacity for the top twelve, Joulamo also said.
