Olympic Skater Drug Kingpin: A Fall From Grace

Wedding has been on the FBI’s list of the most wanted criminals in the United States and is accused of, among other things, murder and cocaine trafficking. He has been compared to drug lord Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán.

The surrender was the result of coordination between US and Mexican authorities, according to the US ambassador to Mexico.

In 2010, Wedding was sentenced to 48 months in prison for attempting to transport 24 kilograms of cocaine from the United States to Canada. After serving his sentence, he was extradited to Canada. There, he allegedly tried to organize the transport of tons of drugs for the Sinaloa cartel, which is “El Chapo’s” organization.

Before he could be apprehended, Wedding fled to Mexico. He is suspected of running his network for drug trafficking in the country and is also accused of having ordered the murder of several people.

Wedding was a snowboarder and competed for Canada in the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics.

At the end of last year, American authorities increased the reward for information leading to Wedding’s arrest to 15 million US dollars, which corresponds to around 134 million kroner.
