[Okinawa]On December 28th, the “Kings Supporters Club” (chairman: Toshiyuki Miyazato, president of the City Chamber of Commerce and Industry), which is made up of companies and individuals from Okinawa City, the hometown of the Ryukyu Golden Kings of the B League 1 professional basketball league, held a reception party to commemorate its founding at the Okinawa Suntory Arena. It is the first organization to be formed by 28 companies and 11 individuals in the city that support the Kings, and was established in October. Chairman Miyazato expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “We want to develop the Kings as a sign of Okinawa City and revitalize the local economy.”
Although specific activities have not yet been determined, plans include an enhanced parade after the season, support tours for away games outside the prefecture, and social contribution activities through basketball.
Okinawa Mayor Daisuke Hanashiro, an advisor, expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “I want to further enliven Okinawa City through the Kings.” Rikuto Nakama, president of Okinawa Basketball, which operates the Kings, said, “We want to revitalize the local economy through the power of sports and become a dream for children.We will work with our hometown Okinawa City in this endeavor.” (Shikaku Umeda)
